Avanica is a high-end furniture manufacturer, retailer and wholesaler, that is dedicated to enriching spaces aesthetically and functionally. They work closely with craftspeople in Indonesia, manufacturing and importing wood products to sell throughout Canada through their Toronto warehouse and new Calgary showroom.

Avanica had been financing working capital through internal resources. They had just completed their third year, with significant opportunities to grow the business and enter into the wholesale market. However, these new opportunities would strain the business’ current working capital set-up. Financial institutions can be reluctant to finance retail businesses, and their existing bank was unwilling to support the business’ growth. They approached several other lenders but were unable to secure appropriate financing.

Ashdown Capital was engaged and went to work learning Avanica’ story and underlying social impact as an employer in small Indonesian villages. By understanding both the company’s social value and potential growth, Ashdown was able to pair Avanica with the best possible lender. Ashdown also effectively advocated for the best possible facilities for the business, due to an equally robust understanding of the lender’ s considerations and processes in the retail space.

“Ashdown assisted us in getting a line of credit with a major bank and helped us through the entire process. They negotiated and got the best rate for our business and we will continue to work with them as we grow our business. I must especially thank Andrew for helping us. He was a pleasure to work with and took care of everything in a timely and professional way. Thank you.” – Sinthu Sivagnanam, President, Avanica Inc.
